BRIBERY ALLEGATION: Egypt Offered Ghana $1million To Qualify For 2014 World Cup In Brazil

Egypt allegedly offered Ghana $1million in bribes to qualify for the 2014 World Cup. A Ghana FA member has boldly remarked that Egypt tried to induce its President, Kwasi Nyantakyi with this ransom before the Black Stars faced the Pharaohs on November 19, 2013.

Kofi Manu, a known advocate for the FA on a radio show on Accra-based Asempa FM in a heated submission, called out the North African country as having attempted to buy their way to the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil by offering the Ghanaian federation the amount.

The Black Stars needed to be beaten by five unanswered goals in the second leg of the World Cup play off after taking a commanding lead in the first leg which they trashed the Pharaohs 6-1 in Kumasi.

All Nyantakyi was allegedly supposed to do was to influence his side to allow Egypt have their way and get richer by one million dollars but the ‘incorruptible’ Ghana chief declined.

''Kwasi Nyantakyi had the opportunity to take $1million in Egypt...he refused to take it [sic],'' the Local Black Stars management member said.

''I said Kwasi Nyantakyi had the opportunity to take $1million dollars in Egypt and give away a five-goal to Egyptians,''a high-pitched Manu emphasized.

Manu’s astonishing claim, comes in the wake of recent corruption scandal that has dented the image of Fifa with its trickle-down effect falling on the Ghana FA.

The Nyantakyi-led Association has locally been smeared with perceived corruption charges [without empirical proof as at now] and that led the close ally of the Ghana football body to make the startling revelations of how the ‘unknown’ elements from Egypt attempted to buy their way to the World Cup.

When questioned to clarify which specific game, Manu said, ''our last qualifying match'' but he refused to come clean on who specifically contacted the Ghana boss.

''I won't tell you who wanted to pay but you can also understand.

''Unlike some people who went to Nigeria [in 2091] to take a bribe of $25,000 to throw away a world cup match in favour of Nigeria, Kwasi Nyantakyi looked at the national pride and ego of Ghana and refused $1million bribe.

''How many people can refuse $1million dollar?," he quizzed.

A Kevin-Prince Boateng late goal saw the Black Stars eventually lose 1-2 at the Cairo Military Stadium but sealed qualification for their third appearance at the World Cup in Brazil last year.
