Oliseh: The Ideal Man For Eagle's Job

Former Nigeria goalkeeper, Joe Erico believes Sunday Oliseh is the ideal coach for the Super Eagles because of his qualification and antecedents while playing for the senior national team.

The Nigeria Football Federation’s decision to replace sacked Stephen Keshi with the former Borrusia Dortmund midfielder has generated mixed reactions with many saying he lacks the capability to handle the former African champions.

“I believe [Oliseh] is a good choice by the Nigeria Football Federation and I wonder why people keep writing him off saying he lacks the experience. Will he not start from somewhere?” Erico told Goal.

“He needs to have a starting point after all he is not the first case we have seen in football and definitely will not be the last.

“Aside from his qualification in coaching which is a proof that he is well trained, it will be easy for him to lift the fortunes of the Eagles he once captained.”

Erico, popularly called Jogo Bonito during his active days, pointed out that the player capped 54 times by the country must have grown too big for his hot temperament which could affect his job, while admonishing him to do all it takes to do well.

“That was then as a player. I’m sure with his training and age, he would have overgrown that. Even now, he still needs a little bit of that to help instill discipline in his team,” he continued.

“The NFF must have given him the terms to work with and I'm sure Oliseh knows what they want. I wish him all the best and hope he doesn’t fail Nigerians.

“He needs to look into every area because there is a vacuum already in the Super Eagles which he must fill,” he concluded.

Oliseh becomes the fifth player in the 1994 class of Eagles to handle the senior national team after Austin Eguavoen, Samson Siasia, Daniel Amokachi and Stephen Keshi.
