Can Ronaldo Break Raul's Record At The Calderon?

Cristiano Ronaldo has a habit of coming flying out of the traps at the beginning of the season and this time round he has extra motivation to do so. The Portuguese forward finished last term on 314 competitive goals for Real Madrid, having racked up 61 over the course of the campaign, meaning he shot past Alfredo Di Stéfano into second in the club's all-time scoring charts.

Now Ronaldo has his sights firmly on the leader of this illustrious list, Raúl González. The Spain and Real Madrid legend's haul of 323 goals is now within striking distance for CR7, who is just nine goals from equalling Raúl and ten from surpassing him and adding yet another golden entry to his place in the 'Los Blancos' history books.

Given his strike rate of 1.2 goals a match last season, the 30-year-old can realistically hope to take this giant leap within eight games. Taking this into account, we can begin to speculate about who might be the opposition for Ronaldo's latest groundbreaking feat, although the Champions League group-stage draw has obviously yet to be made.

Looking at the fixture list, goal number 324 could very feasibly come as early as Real's seventh match of the season, the La Liga gameweek 6 clash at home to Málaga on Sunday 27th September, or the following midweek, in their second Champions League game. If it takes a little longer, it could add some additional spice to the short trip to the Calderón to face Atlético on Sunday 4th October.
