Relegated side FC Taraba took a protest to the state house but met the absence of the Governor. The relegated players made a demand for their out-standings and also blamed Shehu Dikko's led LMC for refusing to enforce sanctions on the club. Several clubs in the NPFL have found their selves in this situation and issues like this still affect the progress of the league.
FC Taraba players took to the streets of Jalingo before landing at the Taraba Government House on Friday to protest the delay in payment of their outstanding wages.
The players blamed the League Management Company (LMC) for their woes after it failed to enforce the six points penalty deduction from the team’s haul on the league table when the state government reneged on the promise to pay the debts before the end of the season.
They also added that the LMC threatened them with sanctions and bans if they embarked on strike action with the proviso that the body would fight to get what rightly belonged to them. But they felt betrayed after the LMC forced them to see through the league season without doing anything to alleviate their plight.
The players threatened not to leave Government House until they got firm assurance that they would be paid their allowances.
The players were later addressed by the State Chief of Staff, Rabo Usman who promised to get back to the players next week after he had consulted the Governor, Darius Ishaku who is away from the state on official assignment.
Meanwhile, a top official of the club revealed to that a player of the team, Boris Konan was manhandled by the overzealous soldiers who were at the entrance to the Government House after the players refused to leave the residence until they were attended to.
FC Taraba finished 19th on the log with 37 points from 38 matches and were relegated alongside Sharks FC, Kwara United and Bayelsa United.
