NPFL: Kano Pillars Suffers First Home Defeat In Over 11 Years

Things seem to be falling apart at defending champions Kano Pillars as they suffered their first home defeat in over 11 years following a 2-1 loss to Nasawara United at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday.

First half goals from Manir Ubale and Bature Yero were all the Solid Miners needed to break the resilience of coach Mohammed Baba Ganaru's men despite Rabiu Ali's equalizer.

Sadly for the hosts, it was their former goal-getter Ubale who powered home a magnificent stunner in the 13th minute and helped teammate Bature nick the second three minutes later.

Pillars seemed rattled by the early torment of the visitors as tireless Ubale came close for the third but was halted by an offside flag in the 30th minute.

At resumption of the second half, Pillars pulled one back through cult hero Rabiu Ali in the 46th minute as they reduced the score line to 2-1.

In the 67th minute, Pillars were boosted when they brought on striker Gambo Mohammed who had been out for five months but he could not immediately impact the game.

Pillars continued their search for another breakthrough but a leveler was far from possible as Nasarawa ran away with a 2-1 victory.

The epic defeat, could turn out to be Pillars’ biggest set back to reclaiming the domestic league title after winning three straight seasons.

Kano Pillars are stuck at 37 points after 25 games and could be 11 points adrift of table toppers Enyimba if they beat Taraba on Monday.
