MANCHESTER UNITED: Moyes set to swoop for Juan Mata

The Manchester Evening News (M.E.N.) have jumped head-first into the transfer gossip mire on Friday publishing an article linking Chelsea’s Juan Mata with a possible move to Old Trafford.

Noticeably, the story in M.E.N. fails to have a single quote in support of the following statements.

According to author James Robson:

United have been put on red alert after Jose Mourinho effectively signalled the end of Juan Mata’s Chelsea career.

David Moyes has made bolstering his midfield a priority during the January transfer window and was first linked with the Spanish playmaker during the summer.

[Moyes] believes that many of his top targets will not be available in the middle of the season, which is why Mata could be such an appealing option. Chelsea’s apparent willingness to listen to offers for the former Valencia star will have alerted Moyes.

With the player desperate for regular football ahead of the World Cup, and the chance to recoup the £23.5m he cost them in 2011, Chelsea could be convinced to do a deal. Particularly if they could persuade United to part with a striker – most likely Javier Hernandez – in order to facilitate a deal.
