That means Vicente del Bosque's side are likely to need back-to-back wins over both Chile and Australia in order to advance to the second round - starting against the South Americans on Wednesday.
"It's a game of life or death for them," said Colo Colo striker Paredes at a press conference in Belo Horizonte on Sunday. "Spain will set out to control the game, we won't have to hand them the ball. We will try to cause problems in their area and we aren't thinking of playing for a draw, nor about the pressure they are under.
"We will simply concentrate on closing the spaces."
Team-mate Felipe Gutierrez added: "We're preparing the game as if it were a final. We really want to win it. They have decisive players all over the pitch, so we'll go out to press them and make life difficult."
The Twente midfielder also revealed his side will try to make up for a lack of height in defence with aggression against Spain.
"We know we have problems in the air and we suffered in that respect [against Australia]," he said. "We were aware of that before the World Cup, but we try to make up for it by playing more aggressively."
