Coach Ikhana's Son Set To Be Promoted To Sunshine Stars' First Team

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leaders Sunshine Stars are set to promote goalkeeper Azeez Ikhana from their feeder team to their senior ranks.

The 18-year-old is the son of Enyimba head coach Kadiri Ikhana and has been in superb form for Rising Stars in the Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL) this term and his development has been tracked by the coaches of Sunshine Stars.

Ikhana has been one of the impressive youngsters in the Rising Stars setup, and top officials of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), which is the parent body of NPFL table-topping Sunshine Stars as well as Rising Stars and Sunshine Queens, revealed to supersport.com that the goalkeeper is being penciled in to team up with their men's senior team.

"Azeez Ikhana is one of the players that could be promoted to the senior team from Rising Stars barring any last minute change in plans. He has really impressed the coaches of Sunshine Stars and could even join the team in the second round," said an official of the football agency.

But should Ikhana be promoted to join Sunshine Stars, he will have his hands full as he would go straight into a battle for a starting place with first-choice Ikechukwu Ezenwa, David Ariyo, John Shuaibu and Danladi Isah.

Sunshine Stars would be looking to promote Ikhana and thereby activate the law in the NPFL rule book which allows clubs to register youngsters in their team and allocate them with squad number from 36 and above.

Rising Stars, regarded as the feeder team of Sunshine Stars, have been of one of the top producing chains of footballers in Nigeria with the likes of Godfrey Oboabona, Dayo Ojo, Tunde Adeniji, Kehinde Adedipe, SUnday Abe and Nzube Anaezemba.
