Egypt's Omar Assar Knocks Aruna Quadri Out Of ITTF World Cup


Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri has missed out of the 2015 Men’s World Cup in Halmstad, Sweden, after losing to Egypt’s Omar Assar in the final of the ITTF Africa Senior Cup in Cameroon.

Quadri lost to Assar in four sets to one, 11-4, 11-4, 11-7, 6-11, 11-7 in Thursday’s final.

In the women’s final, Dina Meshref also from Egypt booked her place in the Women’s World Cup coming up in Sendai, Japan, after her victory against teammate Nadeen El-Dawlatly in the final 11-5, 11-7, 9-11, 12-10, 11-6.


Nigeria’s Funke Oshonaike settled for bronze after she defeated Algeria’s Islem Laid. Oshonaike lost 4-1 to El-Dawlatly in the semi-final.

The World Cup in Sweden is scheduled for 16-18 October, while that of the women in Japan will run from 30th October to November 1.

Meanwhile, Union Bank Sports Club will represent Nigeria in the men’s event of the ITTF Africa Club Championship, in Cameroon.

The competition which serves off on Friday will be competed for by 13 teams made of seven male clubs and six females clubs.
