Falcons Will Survive Equatorial Guinea Clash
Super Falcons head coach, Chris Danjuma has said his side will play the match of their lives against rivals, Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea in the 2016 Olympic Games showdown in Bata on August 2.
The reigning African champions played an uninspiring 1-1 draw against their Equatorial Guinean counterparts in the first fixture clash on Saturday at the Abuja National Stadium.
Danjuma said his side will fight tooth and nail to ensure Nigeria avoids a repeat of the sore miss of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
“We did not go to the last Olympic Games in London and the memory of the painful miss is still quite fresh in our minds.
“We will throw everything into the second leg in Equatorial Guinea to guarantee decent result and then look forward to the final qualifying round.
“The task is quite daunting but not insurmountable, we will prepare well and steel ourselves for whatever banter the Equatorial Guineans will throw at us,” said the former Plateau United coach to supersport.com.
The winner of the two-legged encounter will meet the winner of the clash between South Africa and Kenya for the final spot in the women football event of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea are the only countries to emerge victorious in the biennial African Women Championship (AWC) since it was launched 17 years ago with the Falcons winning the title seven times and the Nzalang Nacional on two occasions.
