Benitez has decided to swallow his words and admit in public that Ronaldo is the best player in the world. He recently bugged that question and compared Ronaldo with the likes of Bale, Benzema and James a statement which we know got CR7 upset and which could be part of the reasons why the two have not been going along well. Benitez should be reminded that Ronaldo doesn't want to ever see himself as second to anybody.
Rafa Benítez has changed his tune on Cristiano Ronaldo's claim to be the best in the world. When asked whether Ronaldo had seemed angry following his remarks last week lumping the Portuguese star together with Gareth Bale, Isco, James and Karim Benzema,
Benítez replied as follows: "From watching him work in the flesh for a week, you can see how competitive he is, how much he likes to win and the quality he has". Citing these reasons, the coach recanted and called Cristiano "the best in the world".
"I wish everyone had the same drive to compete and win", Benítez went on, highlighting that for him "being competitive is a virtue, not a defect".
The reporters present went on to ask the Spaniard directly what had prompted his U-turn about Ronaldo. "In the first place, and above all, because I always try to boost my players", he noted. "And secondly, because when watching him work up-close, you realise why he has won so many trophies and titles".
According to Benítez, there is a simple explanation for this: "He is the best in the world".
