With Man United Dropping Valdes Out Of Pre-Season Tour What's Next For Victor?

It's very hard from the outside to know why Manchester United do not think Victor Valdes is at least good enough to be their backup goalkeeper next season but to leave him out of the tour squad is an obvious signal that he is no longer in their plans.

Having been released by Barcelona last summer, a place where he won six league titles and three Champions League crowns, you would have to believe that his injury has been extremely debilitating. At his very best, Valdes was one of the outstanding goalkeepers in world football and he has an honours list to reflect that.

Goalkeeper Victor Valdes looks certain to leave Manchester United less than a year after signing for the club having been left out of the squad for the pre-season tour of the USA.

The Spanish international was released by Barcelona last summer after a serious knee injury, ending a 19-year association with the club having signed as a youth player in 1995.

The Champions League winner was given the chance to complete his rehabilitation with Manchester United last October before then being offered an 18-month deal to play for the club as backup to compatriot David de Gea.

Despite making his full Premier League debut in the final game of last season, away at Hull City, it seems the 33-year-old will now be swiftly moved on.

The Daily Mirror quotes a senior Old Trafford source as saying that Valdes is not injured and was simply “not selected” for the trip.

It is thought that there have been no offers for Valdes yet, with his agent recently dismissing links with Turkish side Antalyaspor, but Manchester United will listen to interested parties.
