Bolt, 29, finishes 2015 undefeated for the second straight season. He has not lost a race since June 2013, which is the longest undefeated streak of his career, per Nick Zaccardi of NBC Sports.
One of the most decorated sprinters in history, Bolt holds the world record in the 100 meters and 200 meters. He won the gold medal in both events at the 2012 London Games and added another gold with his Jamaican teammates in the 4x100-meter sprint. That run of dominance hasn't subsided over the last three years, as Bolt took home first place in last month's World Championships in all three events.
The only rival even close to Bolt has been Justin Gatlin, who remains competitive despite the fact that he turns 34 in February.
“He talks a lot, I’ve noticed over the years, but that’s just who he is,” Bolt said after defeating Gatlin last month, per Zaccardi. “I’ve noticed that leading up to the championships he’s going to say a lot of stuff, but after the championships, he confuses you. You feel like he’s your best friend.”
Bolt and Gatlin will be anything but best friends going into 2016. Both will be competing in what will likely be their last Olympic Games. Bolt has already said he will retire following the 2017 World Championships, while Gatlin would be closer to 40 than 30 by the time the 2020 Olympic Games come around.
Either way, it's likely smart for Bolt to get his rest now. Come 2016, it's full speed ahead—he hopes.
