Ramos Loses Money With New Real Madrid Contract

Ramos has got exactly what he wanted: a new deal which takes him a step closer to staying at Real Madrid until he hangs up his boots. Of course, the Spanish defender has also been given a pay rise, but that wage falls short of Manchester United's offer. Ramos is missing out on money by staying at the Bernabéu, but is much happier after receiving the acknowledgment he craved.

Many will accuse him of penny-pinching and will say that he got his way, but Ramos will sign his new deal with a clear conscience. He did not blackmail the club, neither did he toy with Manchester United, like they are saying in England. Both Sergio and his brother René have always been very up front, speaking honestly and telling Real Madrid exactly what they wanted.

United offered Sergio 12m euros per season after tax and the defender made Los Blancos aware of how much was on the table. The Bernabéu club told him throughout that they could not match that offer. Until then it was just like any other negotiation. Problems arose when it was leaked that the Spain international was asking Real Madrid for 10m euros after tax and media sources close to the club accused him of penny-pinching and hit out at his brother René.

Real Madrid refused to accept losing Ramos. Firstly, they priced him at 100m euros. Then club president, Florentino Pérez sat down with him in Guangzhou and sorted things out quickly. He was very clear and gave him all the affection he wanted. That, plus a pay rise.
