The game that saw in attendance the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegbeleye as well as the Nigeria Football Federation’s Director of Competitions saw the Nigeria U20 waste two clear chances in the opening minutes of the entertaining encounter.

TALKING POINTS
Chelsea know any win will do, away goal or no away goal, in this Champions League semi-final second leg. The winners will play Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid, who qualified with ease last night at the Allianz Arena, scene of Chelsea's unforgettable success in the 2012 final.

Tonight's opponents, Atletico Madrid, are the only unbeaten side still left in the Champions League and have conceded just five times in 11 matches. The Blues are aiming to reach a third successive European final but have a patchy record of qualifying from just two of the previous six semi-finals in this competition.

Why NFF Rejected Keshi's Provisional List (Goal)

Goal has discovered that the non-inclusion of experienced players in the 38-man provisional list submitted by coach Stephen Keshi to the Nigeria Football Federation last week is the reason behind the delay in its announcement.

It has been learnt that the Technical Committee rejected the list due to the absence of the trio of Peter Odemwingie, Joseph Yobo and Chinedu Obasi.

Keshi was then told to make "more consultations" before submitting the final list.
Goal gathered from a top source that members of the Technical Committee were unhappy with Keshi's decision to leave out Odemwingie, Obasi and Yobo, an action that attracted strong reactions.

Bayern Munich's Goalkeeper Attacks Pep Guardiola's Tactics

No sooner had the final whistle blown last night than the inquest and recriminations of Pep Guardiola’s philosophy had begun.

Comprehensively beaten 0-5 over 2 legs by a tactically superior Real Madrid side, the mythology of Pep is being called into question in Germany, and even within the camp.

Keeper Manuel Neuer, the Bayern player who had the best view and time to observe the tactical context of the tie, had no hesitation in questioning their modus operandi over the two legs.

SNOOKER: Ronnie O'Sullivan eases into World Snooker semi-finals

Defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan powered into the World Championship semi-finals with a 13-3 demolition of 2005 winner Shaun Murphy.

O'Sullivan, who is trying to win his sixth Crucible title, won seven of the eight frames played to secure a last-four tie against either Dominic Dale or last year's runner-up Barry Hawkins. Earlier, Mark Selby reached the semis with a 13-5 victory over Alan McManus. The 2007 runner-up will now play either Judd Trump or Neil Robertson.

O'Sullivan, who is the overwhelming favourite to secure his third successive title, won with a session to spare, although the 38-year-old said he had overcome an issue with his cue following Tuesday's session.

VICTOR MOSES: I Am Happy At Liverpool

Nigeria international Victor Moses has stated that he is excited being with English Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The on-loan Chelsea star has struggled to tie down a regular place in Brendan Rodgers’ squad due to the blistering form of Rahemm Sterling and Philipe Coutinho.

“It’s been great for me. I know I haven’t played a lot of games this season. But I am really enjoying my time at Liverpool,” Moses told Sky Sports News Radio.

Emmanuel Emenike Will Not Play In Champions League Despite Wining The Turkish League With Fenerbache

Emmanuel Emenike's Fenerbache will not be allowed to compete in the Champions League next season as they complete a two-year ban from Europe following a UEFA sanction for match-fixing.

As a result, the second-placed side will qualify directly for the group stage of the 2014-15 Champions League.

The Yellow Cannaries won the Turkish league title with three games to spare after a 0-0 draw at home to Caykur Rizespor, in front of a crowd made up exclusively of women and children.

ENGLAND: Ankle Injury Rules Tottenham's Andros Townsend Out Of World Cup Squad

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has been ruled out of the World Cup in Brazil with an ankle injury.
Townsend, 22, will be sidelined for 10 weeks after damaging his ankle ligaments in Spurs’ 1-0 Premier League win over Stoke City and will undergo surgery on Thursday.

It leaves England boss Roy Hodgson short of attacking midfielders after Arsenal's Theo Walcott was also ruled out of the World Cup in January with cruciate ligament damage in his knee.

Townsend starred in England’s must-win qualifier against Montenegro in October, capping a fine performance with his first international goal in a 4-1 win at Wembley, and followed it up with another impressive display in the 2-0 victory over Poland.

Jose Mourinho Will Win The Champions League Says Deco

Former Barcelona player Deco has his money on Chelsea to make it through to the final of the Champions League, where he believes José Mourinho, "a fantastic friend and coach", will triumph over Real Madrid, the Blues manager's former club.

"The cup is his (Mourinho). It might be against his old team, Real Madrid, which would be great for him," he assured. "I think Chelsea will go through. The first leg was a tough match.

They didn't take any risks because they knew the second leg was going to be in London," he remarked, convinced that the Blues will beat Atlético de Madrid at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Messi Needs Guardiola & Guardiola Needs Messi Too

The wrong kind of messy. Pep Guardiola held his hands up and admitted on Tuesday night that his Bayern Munich team had been made to look very much second best by Real Madrid in their 4-0 defeat at home to the Spanish side. It was the heaviest defeat in the Catalan's coaching career and raised question marks over the suitability of his possession philosophy at the Allianz Arena. Without Lionel Messi to turn to, Pep's powers appeared dramatically diminished.

At Barcelona, Guardiola knew the club inside out and implemented a style of play already familiar for the entire squad. The Catalans' one touch passing plan is instilled in footballers from a young age at La Masia. Pep had lived and breathed that football as a player, just like Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi et al. So when he took over as coach and inherited that golden generation of players, the diamond was there. It just needed to be polished.

After winning the treble last season under Jupp Heynckes, Bayern's diamond was already polished, just not quite like how Pep liked it. Instead of adapting to his new players, however, Guardiola wants those footballers to get used to the methods that made his Barca side so brilliant between 2008 and 2012. But there's one problem: there's no Messi.

MOURINHO: I May Start Ba, Torres And Eto

José Mourinho praised Atlético Madrid but then slipped into his very own inimitable style when asked about the tactics he plans to use against the Rojiblancos.

"They're a good team. They’re not a counterattacking side. They defend well and score goals. They win games. They're in the Champions League semifinals and only need two wins to be champions of the Spanish league. I don't think it's fair to analyse them like that," he replied when it was suggested that Atlético is not a great team.

Hazard:
"Hazard is ready, it's my decision if he starts but he's ready."

CHELSEA vs ATLETICO MADRID: Bet Tips, Essential Facts & Statistics

Atletico arrive at Stamford Bridge as the underdog despite having outshot the Blues 25-5 during the first leg of the Champions League semifinal.

Jose Mourinho, once again, appears to be turning Chelsea into the team of the hour, having drawn 0-0 away in Madrid and then following that up with the impressive 2-0 away win at Liverpool that reopened up the Premier League title race.

Both games at the Calderon and Anfield had Mourinho’s indelible handprint all over them, as a calculated and defensive Blues side bided their time to hit their opponents on the counter attack. Some fans criticised the Portuguese strategist for his way of playing, and it will be interesting to see if he chooses the same defensive tactics on home soil.

BAYERN 0 REAL MADRID 4: Guardiola Admits Making Mistakes In Tactics

JOSE MOURINHO: I Want To Stay At Chelsea Forever

Jose Mourinho insists that he wants to stay at Chelsea "forever" after returning for the club for a second spell.
Mourinho originally left Chelsea by mutual consent but is now adamant that he wants to see out his managerial career in west London.

"My future is Chelsea and if Chelsea decides it's time to stop our relationship, it's Chelsea that decides," he told reporters. "Not me. I want to stay forever.

"When Chelsea decides it's time to stop, it's then time for me to think about my future."

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: ArjenRobben Launches Anti-Football Tactics Attack Against Chelsea & Atletico Madrid

Arjen Robben has launched a scathing attack on the football philosophies of Atletico Madrid and Chelsea.
He told Sky Sports News: "I don't really care [who wins]. I watched the 90 minutes last week and I couldn't watch it – the match had nothing to do with football.

"The two managers (Jose Mourinho and Diego Simeone), I respect them and everybody has their own way, but I think Real Madrid will win the Champions League and I wish them all the best."

Robben was not shy in critiquing his own side's performance, claiming that they had to accept the heavy defeat that saw them beaten 5-0 on aggregate.

Jose Mourinho Questions Critics Style Of Play

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has criticised "philosophers" who question his side's tactics in recent matches. The Blues' defensive approach was highlighted after a goalless Champions League semi-final first leg at Atletico Madrid and a 2-0 win at Liverpool.

Mourinho said: "Football in this moment is full of philosophers, people who understand much more than me. Amazing.

"But the reality is the reality. A team that doesn't defend well doesn't have many chances to win."
Mourinho, 51, could seal a third Champions League title with as many clubs if Chelsea can qualify for the final in Lisbon.

Champions League - Guardiola defiant as tiki-taka declared dead

The former Barcelona boss was forced to defend his philosophy, already under fire in Germany, after his side were outclassed in their semi-final, second leg, losing 4-0 on the night and 5-0 on aggregate.

"I know it's a tough night for us, for me and for the players," he said, adding that Bayern lost because they had too little possession, not too much. "The reason we did so badly in the first half is that we did not have possession. We didn't play with the ball. Against Arsenal and against Manchester United (earlier in the competition) and in the first leg in Madrid, we played with the ball and we controlled the game. We did not do it in the first half and when you don't have control against a great, great team like this, you don't have a chance."

"The argument about my ideas is not valid," he added. "I can't change what I feel and what I feel is that we must play with the ball and attack as much as possible."

Champions League - Ronaldo breaks record as brilliant Real destroy Bayern to reach final

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday broke the record for the most goals in a European Cup or Champions League season in his side's 4-0 semifinal second-leg victory over Bayern Munich.

Ronaldo picked up his 15th and 16th goals of the campaign to help put the Spanish side into the final in Lisbon on May 24 as Carlo Ancelotti's side humiliated the defending champions.

The Portuguese forward's two goals helped him eclipse the previous best of 14 in a season registered by Barcelona's Lionel Messi in 2011-12 and Jose Altafini of AC Milan in 1962-63.

Diego Simeone Refuses To Criticise Chelsea's Negative Football Tactics

Diego Simeone has refused to criticise Chelsea’s negative approach in recent games ahead of Atlético Madrid’s Champions League semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues adopted a defensive game-plan to secure a goalless draw at the Vicente Calderon last week before securing a 2-0 victory at Premier League leaders Liverpool thanks to a brace of counter-attacking goals.

Reds manager Brendan Rodgers criticised José Mourinho for parking “two buses” at Anfield on Sunday, whilst Chelsea infuriated the Atlético fans with their time-wasting tactics in the Spanish capital last Tuesday.

The Argentine, who will turn 41 in August, has long been expected to retire this summer but had repeatedly stated that he had no interest in taking up a coaching role with the Nerazzurri.

However, according to Thohir, the iconic defender was only too happy to accept an administrative position at San Siro.

WORLD CUP: Roy Hodgson Already Knows England Squad For Brazil 2014

England manager Roy Hodgson has made it clear that players' form over the last few matches of the season will not affect his World Cup selection plans.

Hodgson says he will make his decision based over the last few months or even years and that the last few weeks of the season is a "notoriously bad" time to judge players. The England boss is due to announce his squad in a couple of weeks' time: "Nothing that happens in the last four games, in terms of form, is going to affect me.

"I don't judge players on their last-minute form over two or three games. I'm judging them over two years. Or, in particular, if anyone new on the scene has emerged I'm judging him over several months.

Stefan Effenberg Blasts Guardiola's Tactics

Stefan Effenberg believes Pep Guardiola’s system “reached its limit” in Bayern Munich’s 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid last week.

The former Barcelona coach’s passing philosophy has been called into question following the Santiago Bernabeu setback and ex-Germany midfielder Effenberg does not think it is dynamic enough to see Bayern retain their Champions League crown. Ahead of Tuesday night’s return leg in Bavaria, the Sky Germany pundit told Goal: “Bayern win 90 per cent of their games.

"In the Bundesliga, they demoralise opponents with their constant possession. At a higher level, it's a different game. Teams like Manchester United, Real, or maybe Chelsea in the final defend perfectly.

Cech was injured as he punched the ball from underneath his own crossbar, with David Luiz pushing Raul Garcia into the Chelsea goalkeeper, who hit the ground with a thud and was replaced by Mark Schwarzer.

NFF Denies South Africa 2010 World Cup Match Fixing

The Nigeria Football Federation has moved to quash allegations of match fixing levelled against it by Singaporean Wilson Raj Perumal in his book.

Perumal who has recently served time in prison for match fixing claimed to have ensured Nigeria's qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa by enticing the Mozambican national team with a promise of $100,000 if they would hold Tunisia to a draw in Maputo and ensure that Nigeria qualified for the competition.

The Black Mambas did better by defefating Tunisia 1-0 while the Super Eagles won 3-2 away in Nairobi against Kenya to reach the first ever World Cup on African soil.

ARDA TURAN: We Are Sure Of Reaching Champions League Final

Arda Turan has revealed that Atletico Madrid still believe that they can upset Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and reach the final of the Champions League.

The Rojiblancos were held to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their last-four clash with the Blues at the Vicente Calderon last Tuesday, prompting many pundits to make Jose Mourinho's men the favourites to progress to next month's tournament decider in Lisbon.

However, Arda says that the tie is still perfectly balanced and that Atletico's faith in themselves has not been affected by their inability to secure a lead to protect in west London.

ANDRE SCHUERRLE: Critics Are Jealous Of Chelsea's Success

In a staunch defence of Chelsea’s style of play, Andre Schuerrle has claimed that those who criticise the London club are merely jealous.

"Winning is what matters. It's the most important thing," the 23-year-old said.

"You can play perfect football, have lots of one-touch stuff, and you lose. But that's not what you want – you want to win. There's no point in playing well and losing. If our plan is to win playing this way, and we win, then it is perfect. If people look at us and say 'Chelsea can't play', even when we win, it's just because they're jealous."

Xabi Alonso, Willian and Koke are also among the players who will be walking a disciplinary tightrope in the semi-final second legs

A total of nine players are just one yellow card away from being suspended for the Champions League final ahead of the semi-final second legs this week.

For holders Bayern Munich, striker Mario Mandzukic is at risk of a ban as they look to overturn a 1-0 deficit to Real Madrid from the first leg.

The Spanish giants have three players who will miss the Lisbon showpiece should they pick up a booking in Germany. Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso and Asier Illarramendi will all need to be wary of incurring the wrath of referee Pedro Proenca.

Will Cristiano Ronaldo Break Champions League Record Against Bayern Munich???

If he scores against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo will set a new all-time season goals record in the Champions League.

Ronaldo, 29, is on 14 Champions League goals so far this campaign, having equalled hauls from Barcelona's Lionel Messi (2011-12) and Milan's Jose 'Mazzola' Altafini (1962-63).

But if he finds the net in Munich, he will be the stand-alone holder of the record for most goals in a season of Europe's premier club competition, including its former incarnation as the European Cup.

MEMORIES (2012) : Bayern Munich 2 Real Madrid 1

WOW!!! Real Madrid Have Played Ten Times At Munich Drawing One And Loosing Nine

Munich is a cursed destination for Real Madrid in the European Cup. The facts and figures show as much. Out of ten games played there, they have lost nine and managed just one draw.

'Los Blancos' have never produced a win at either the Olympiastadion or the Allianz Arena.
Nevertheless, amongst all the doom and gloom, there is one statistic which gives Real Madrid cause for optimism. Bayern virtually always win, but do not generally give the Spanish team a going over.

In fact, any of the last seven outcomes from the ties that they have played in Munich would suffice for Ancelotti's men. For example, the last time that Real played at the Allianz (2011/12) they lost 2-1, which would be enough to see them playing in Lisbon on 24th May.

Jose Mourinho Hails Schwarzer And Kalas Heroics Against Liverpool

Jose Mourinho hailed the performances of Tomas Kalas and Mark Schwarzer in Chelsea's 2-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. With Petr Cech sidelined by a dislocated shoulder, Schwarzer stepped into the goalkeeping breach, making just his second Premier League start of the season in the win at Anfield.

Despite the importance of the occasion, the Czech defender coped with everything Liverpool threw at the Chelsea backline, earning the praise of his manager.

"Beautiful," Mourinho said. "Before the match we were laughing because big guys like Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole, they had their debuts in the Premier League against small teams.

ANDY GRAY: Everton Fans Will Prefer To Lose To Man City Than To Help Liverpool Win The League

Andy Gray reckons Everton fans may actually want their team to lose this weekend, as it would leave Liverpool facing title heartbreak.

The Toffees take on Manchester City at Goodison Park on Saturday and Gray believes a win for the visitors would all but secure them the title.

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the former Everton star claimed the majority of the club's supporters would welcome being beaten by City if it meant their near neighbours Liverpool missing out on the championship.

MARK SCHWARZER: We Didn't Park Two Buses Against Liverpool

Chelsea's performing stand in goalie Mark Schwarzer has said Chelsea got their tactics spot on as they beat Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield and has slammed critics of their gameplan.

The Blues produced a solid defensive display at Anfield, with the Australian goalkeeper putting in a superb performance between the sticks to snuff out the prolific Luis Suarez, while Demba Ba and Willian were able to provide their goals on Merseyside.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers claimed his opposite number, Jose Mourino, had ‘parked two buses’ to stop his side – a comment which Schwarzer took umbrage with.

WOW!!! Former Super Eagles Captain JayJay Okocha Also Tweeted That Liverpool Will Beat Chelsea

OLIVIER GIROUD: FA Cup Trophy And Champions League Qualification Good For Arsenal

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud believes that an FA Cup win and fourth-placed Premier League finish would be a "good season" for his team.

Arsene Wenger's men dropped out of the title race after a four-match winless run starting in late March and are fighting with Everton for the final Champions League spot, but the Gunners enter an FA Cup final against Hull on May 17 as hot favourites, looking to end a nine-year trophy drought.

"If we finish fourth, we have not lost anything and it will be a good season. I think that, if we finish fourth, that will be a successful season and the FA Cup, if we win, would be a bonus," Giroud told the press.

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben says he was taken aback by Real Madrid's defensive approach when the two sides met last week. Karim Benzema gave Carlo Ancelotti's side a vital 1-0 first-leg lead in the Champions League semi-final as the Bavarians struggled to break down a stubborn Madrid defence.

The Dutchman has admitted that he expected the Spanish outfit to be more adventurous but is confident his side can make amends at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.

"We were all surprised about their defensive play in Madrid," he said at a press conference.
