Diego Godin Rejects City's €40m Offer

Diego Godin has rejected Manchester City’s 40m euro offer, MARCA report tonight.

The Uruguyan is Manuel Pellegrini’s number 1 defensive transfer target this summer, but City will now have to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements, as Godin has turned down the offer and is ready to commit his future to Atletico Madrid.

Manchester City were ready to pay the Uruguayan’s buyout clause of 40m – a huge sum to pay for a 29-year-old defender – but Godin has remained loyal to Diego Simeone, and is even ready to extend his current contract, which finishes in 2018.

Now third captain of los Rojiblancos, Godin is a real symbol of the club’s recent success, and it appears he doesn’t want to leave that behind.

City broke the British transfer record for a defender by shelling out £31.8m on Eliquim Mangala last season, but the Frenchman has proven to be a spectacular flop, and it’s clear City are desperate to bring someone in to partner Vincent Kompany this season.
