Why I Didn;t Invite Odion Ighalo - Sunday Oliseh

Nigeria's  head coach, Sunday Oliseh has insisted he cannot call up all the country’s top stars at once and so Watford striker, Odion Ighalo will have to wait for his turn to be invited to the Super Eagles.

Ighalo was a major omission from an 18-man squad despite his exploits for both club and country.

In June, Ighalo scored his first Eagles goal in a 2-0 home win over Les Sao of Chad in an AFCON qualifier and he got off to a flying start in the English Premier League with a goal on the opening day of the season.

“We can only play 11 players at once. We have two other strikers we want to try out,” Oliseh said in response to questions over Ighalo’s exclusion.

Russia-based Sylvester Igboun and Esperance striker Emem Eduok have been considered ahead of the former Flying Eagles skipper.

Ighalo, however, says he was disappointed not being called up, but hopes to continue working hard at his English club.

“I am a little bit disappointed not to be on the list, but I am taking it in good faith,” Ighalo told AfricanFootball.com.

“Nigeria is blessed with talents. I think the coach is rebuilding, maybe I am not in his plan for now. May be he will call me in future,” Ighalo who scored for Watford in the EPL opener against Everton at Goodison Park penultimate Saturday said.

And despite being left out, the former Lyn Oslo of Norway striker believes the players invited for the match would beat Tanzania.

“I think the players he called can do it against Tanzania. I want to concentrate on working hard at Watford and see what happens in future with the Eagles. I wish the team all the best,” Ighalo said.

Oliseh, meanwhile, restated his resolve to adopt “a winning style of play”.

“We are starting from scratch, but with time I hope for a winning style of play,” he promised.
