NPFL: The Title Is My Main Target Not Rashidi Yekini's Golden Boot Award - Mfon Udoh

Enyimba's goal machine Mfon Udoh spoke to Samuel Ahmadu in an exclusive interview where he revealed that his main focus is to win the league and not Rashidi Yekini's Golden boot award. The goal monger is more interested in team glory than personal glory and he sees Enyimba wining the league.

Enyimba striker Mfon Udoh says winning the Nigeria Professional Football League title this season remain his topmost priority rather than contending for the top scorer gong.

Udoh is the NPFL all-time record goal scorer with 23 league goals - a record he set in the 2013/2014 season at the Aba based outfit.

In the current season, the former Akwa United star has been inconsistent as he has struggled for form and fitness. Even at this, the 23-year-old insists he is optimistic about beating his personal best in upcoming seasons.

"Well, my personal target for the season is to grab the league shield. I think that's what will do me a great fulfilment this season," Udoh told Goal.

"I'm not discouraged, though disappointed anyway but won't blame myself that much due to my illness because it could happen to anybody.

"But now I’m happy that I’m back on my feet. Life goes on and this is football, what you can do yesterday and cannot do today, does not mean you can't do it tomorrow," he enthused.

On inspiration behind the Elephants' impressive season form, Udoh cited self-motivation within the players to get named as title-winners as the sole secret.

"If you remember this time last season, we had already lost 11 matches but this time we've only lost three. This shows we have recorded a lot of improvement.

"We improved well than in our last outing in the league. We have been working so hard as players in ensuring we are in our current position.

“That day is going to be great atmosphere, a fulfilled day and thing of joy to win the league title. That's why we are working so hard to get result in every game," he continued.

"There is no motivation or inspiration from anywhere; I must sincerely tell you that all we are doing is just to cheer ourselves up just to win the league shield.

"This is because most of us as players have never won the league title and remembering when last we won the title as a club to write our names in gold," he concluded.

Enyimba top the NPFL log with 49 points - three points clear of Sunshine Stars after 26 games.
