Enugu Rangers 3 Kwara United 2: Antelopes Set Up El Kanemi Quarter Final In Federation Cup

Enugu Rangers defeated Kwara United 3-2 in Abuja on Thursday evening to qualify for the quarter final of the 2015 Federation Cup.

The Flying Antelopes relied on the late minute goal of Emeka Eze to see off the difficult Harmony Warriors in the final match of the Round of 16 after their opponents found their way back into the match despite trailing twice.

Rangers scored first through Rasaq Adegbite in the 11th minute but Kwara United leveled the tie 15 minutes later through Evans Iyoro.

The Enugu side led again in the 46th minute through Bobby Clement but the Harmony Warriors equalized through Adesina Gata in the 71st minute.

It was as if the game would end in a draw and that penalty kicks might decide the tie before Eze struck in the 86th minute to the delight of Rangers’ head coach, Imama Amapakabo and his coaching crew.

Rangers will face El Kanemi Warriors in the quarter final next week at a venue to be determined.

The Flying Antelopes have won the competition on five occasions in 1974, 1975, 1976, 1981 and 1983. They managed to get to the final in 1990, 2000, 2004 and 2007 but they lost to Stationery Stores, Niger Tornadoes, Dolphins (twice) respectively. T

They are seeking an end to over 30 years of trophy drought.
