NPFL: Shooting Stars Win First Away Match In 5 Years

Glo Premier League club, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), ended their five-year wait to win their first game on the road in Nigeria's top flight.

The Ibadan club dispatched Heartland 3-1 at the Rojenny Stadium in Oba near the commercial town of Onitsha on Monday after the game was abandoned on Sunday owing to bad weather.

Shooting Stars head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, gave new-signing Danladi Isah a start in goal while Fortune Omoniwari, who joined Heartland last week, also got the nod for his debut with the club.

The game resumed from the 26th minute when it was abandoned the previous and it was the two debutants, who made the clash look like it was a game between Omoniwari versus Isah rather than Heartland versus Shooting Stars.

On the half hour mark, Isah spread out himself well to deny Omoniwari a debut goal.

Six minutes later, Tope Orelope fired 3SC in front from 20 yards leaving Heartland goalkeeper Emmanuel Iwu with no answer to his attempt.

Five minutes to the break, Omoniwari, who was in the centre of Heartland's every attacking move, stung the palms of Isah again.

Right on the break, Omoniwari got his debut goal from a Kingsley Ajaero's cross inch perfect cross, as Isah could not stop him this time.

If Heartland thought they had hurled themselves back in the game, Ogunbote's men had other ideas as Cletus Itodo restored 3SC's lead two minutes into the restart before Najeem Olukokun doubled their lead on 64 minutes to make the scoreline 3-1.

Goal attempts by Omoniwari and Babangida Hassan in the 80th and 85th minutes respectively were smothered by the impressive 3SC goalkeeper Isah as they moved into the top half of the standings in the Nigerian top flight.

The Ibadan club last won a game on the road in the top flight on February 20, 2010 when they defeated Gateway FC 2-1 at the Ilaro stadium. Timothy Idogbe scored twice for 3SC on that occasion.
