AFCON: Leon Balogun To Miss Tanzanian Clash Due To Injury

Nigeria defender, Leon Balogun, has been ruled out of Saturday's 2017 Afcon qualifier against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam.

Balogun will not take part in the Africa Cup of Nations against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania owing to an ankle injury he has been nursing since Wednesday.

The 27-year-old FSV Mainz 05 defender once again sat out of the Super Eagles training session at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam like he did on Thursday and Friday in Abuja.

"Leon is out. He would not be playing (against) Tanzania," said Super Eagles spokesman, Toyin Ibitoye.

Nigeria head coach, Sunday Oliseh, said that the team medical team has monitored Balogun "on hourly basis" but will now look to turn to other options for right-back in the team.

"He's been aching in the ankle. He got the knock in training and we've been trying to get him on (in good shape). This has been going on since Wednesday morning.

"We've been working on him almost on hourly basis to try to get him in shape but we have solutions and we'll try to get the others to play," said Oliseh.

Supersport.com has been informed by camp sources that Oliseh will give Warri Wolves right-back, Solomon Kwambe, the nod to start against Tanzania in the absence of Balogun.

Oliseh also took time to state that he is more focused on his team and acknowledged that Tanzania are capable of hurting the Super Eagles.

"Everybody, every single player (in the Tanzania squad) can hurt us," he said.
