FLYING EAGLES 8 IKARE UNITED 0: Awoniyi And Yahaya Leads Ikare's Demolition

Nigeria national U-20 side defeated Ikare United 8-0 in a friendly game played at the Fifa Goal Project ground in Abuja on Wednesday.

A brace from Musa Yahaya and Taiwo Awoniyi plus strikes from Alhassan Ibrahim,  Sulaiman Abdullahi, Abubakar Lawal and Wasiu Jimoh were all the Flying Eagles needed to breeze past the Ondo state based amateur side.

The game that saw in attendance the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegbeleye as well as the Nigeria Football Federation’s Director of Competitions saw the Nigeria U20 waste two clear chances in the opening minutes of the entertaining encounter.

With eleven minutes into the game, Kelechi Iheanacho was brought down in the opponents’ penalty area with Alhassan failing to convert the resulting penalty kick.

Two minutes later, Alhassan redeemed his image by getting the curtain raiser with his low shot outside the box.

Thirteen minutes later Abdullahi doubled the Flying Eagles advantage with Yahaya grabbing the third goal of the encounter. Yahaya completed his brace in the 42nd minute.

On resumption of the second half, Garba’s side continued from where they stopped in the first half with substitute Awoniyi tucking in the fifth goal in the 49th minute with Lawal and Jimoh completing the rout in the closing stages of the game.

Flying Eagles now boast of 34 goals in their last five games.
