RONALDO: We Will Score And Qualify In Munich

Cristiano Ronaldo felt no ill effects after he returned from injury in Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final.There was speculation before the match that Ronaldo was returning too quickly, after 22 days on the sidelines with a leg injury, and afterwards coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted his star man was only 50 per cent fit.

Ronaldo was substituted with 16 minutes remaining and replaced by Gareth Bale, but confirmed afterwards that he had come through the match without any problems.

“Some people didn’t want me to play, but I did and nothing happened,” Ronaldo told Marca. “I was a little bit worried because it was my first match after three weeks but I didn’t feel any discomfort. I’ll be in perfect condition for the next games.”

“If we score a goal there it will make it very complicated for them to go through, so I think we will score and go on to the final.” Cristiano Ronaldo

Ancelotti praised Ronaldo’s efforts after Real had been forced to start Bale off the bench due to a virus.

“It wasn’t easy with no Bale and Ronaldo at only 50 per cent,” he said. “[Ronaldo] made a huge effort”.
Karim Benzema’s 19th-minute strike separated the teams, although Real could have taken an even greater advantage to the Allianz Arena next week after creating a number of good chances. Bayern controlled possession for the majority, but their lack of cutting edge means they will not take an away goal back to Munich.

Ronaldo believes that could be a decisive factor, adding: “One-nil in the semi-final of the Champions League is good and we also played well. If we score a goal there it will make it very complicated for them to go through, so I think we will score and go on to the final.”
The final will be staged in Lisbon, where Ronaldo began his senior career with Sporting, on 24 May with either La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid or Chelsea lying in wait.
