Petr Cech Trains Ahead Of Atletico Clash After Surprise Recovery

Petr Cech could feature in Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid after taking part in training on Tuesday.

The goalkeeper’s season appeared to have been brought to a premature end after he was injured in the semi-final, first leg goalless draw at the Vicente Calderon. Cech went off after 18 minutes with a shoulder injury and captain John Terry departed after 72 minutes with a foot problem.

Cech was injured as he punched the ball from underneath his own crossbar, with David Luiz pushing Raul Garcia into the Chelsea goalkeeper, who hit the ground with a thud and was replaced by Mark Schwarzer.

It was later revealed that he had dislocated his shoulder.

At the time, Jose Mourinho said: "Petr Cech's season over. Don't ask me technically, but season over.”

However, the keeper has now taken part in training ahead of the Wednesday’s match alongside Terry, Samuel Eto'o and Eden Hazard, and has told Sky Sports that he expects to play in Wednesday's match.

It is not unheard of for an athlete to make a quick recovery from a dislocated shoulder as it depends on the tissue damage surrounding the injury.

It would still be regarded as a risk if Mourinho, who suggested Cech would require an operation, selects the goalkeeper.

Cech strode out to the training field at Chelsea's Cobham training ground while bouncing a ball with each hand. He warmed up with the full squad before breaking off with the goalkeepers, as usual.

As Schwarzer, Hilario and Mitchell Beeney continued their specific drills, Cech moved out of view of the media invited to the first 15 minutes of the session.
