Injured Sturridge Set For Norwich Return

Liverpool have been handed a boost for their Premier League title bid as the club confirmed striker Daniel Sturridge could be set for an immediate return to first-team action.

The 24-year-old’s prolific goalscoring form has been crucial for the high flying Reds this season, though fears over his fitness for the remaining four games arose after he hobbled off midway through the 3-2 victory over Man City on Sunday.

Sturridge struggled to make an impact in the crucial Anfield tie, and a difficult afternoon against his former side was brought to a premature close when he was forced off with a suspected hamstring problem.

Injury to the England international would be a major blow in Liverpool’s quest to claim their first top flight crown in 24 years, but the club have since insisted the striker could be fit in time for Sunday’s visit to Norwich, as the Redmen look to extend their winning run to 11 games.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “Liverpool will give Daniel Sturridge every opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash with Norwich City.

“The striker had to be withdrawn in the 66th minute of last weekend's 3-2 win over Manchester City and has since undergone further assessment with the club's medical team at Melwood and a small strain was detected following a scan.

“The 24-year-old will now undergo a treatment programme in order to try and be available for the trip to Carrow Road.”
